Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar’s stunning range-extended electric supercar concept – the C-X75 – made its North American Debut at this year’s 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. Also on display at the Jaguar stand are the 2011 XJ, XK and XF. This 2011 Model Year lineup will be on display for press review and available during the public show days from November 19 – 28.

C-X75 Concept
The C-X75, designed to celebrate 75 years of the marque, provides a glimpse into the future of Jaguar and its commitment to producing beautiful, fast cars, powered by sustainable means. The C-X75 boasts advanced design features such as a ground-breaking propulsion system, and active aerodynamics allow for an elegantly simple fuselage section that remains stable at very high speeds.

Shorter and lower than the current crop of supercars, its exterior design is about pure performance with a simple central fuselage surrounded by prominent wheel arches. Thanks to the packaging efficiencies provided by the absence of a conventional piston engine, the car’s designers had maximum freedom in placing the mechanical components and creating the most elegant engineering package available.

The 205 mph four-wheel drive supercar is capable of running in purely electric (zero tailpipe emissions) mode for 68 miles on a six-hour domestic plug-in charge. The innovative, lightweight micro gas-turbines are also capable of very quickly and efficiently recharging the Lithium-ion batteries, giving the car a theoretical range of 560 miles.

Because each wheel is driven by its own electric motor, the C-X75 is four-wheel
drive – with all the traction, grip and safety benefits that entails – without the weight disadvantages of a purely mechanical set-up. Inherent in this drivetrain is the ability to independently vector torque to each wheel across the full speed range. This offers potential benefits in terms of stability and control, creating an infinitely and instantaneously adjustable traction and stability control system.

Jaguar to launch XKR-S at Geneva motorshow and celebrate 50 years of E-type

Jaguar will launch its most potent series production car ever, the all-new XKR-S, at the Geneva motorshow on March 1.

This all-new model will significantly broaden the appeal of the XK range, offering enthusiastic drivers a compelling, fresh choice in the luxury GT class. With an uprated supercharged V8 engine, overhauled suspension and a new aerodynamically-driven design, the XKR-S is the ultimate expression of Jaguar’s long held duality of purpose: GT luxury with incredible performance.

“The XKR-S is a bold and exciting new model for Jaguar,” said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s new Global Brand Director. “We expect to attract both loyal and new Jaguar driving enthusiasts who still want the comfort, opulence and class only a Jaguar can offer, combined with inspirational performance.”

The XKR-S produces 550PS and 680Nm of torque, enough power to offer a top speed of 186mph (300km/h). Its performance credentials speak for themselves: 0-60mph takes 4.2 seconds, with 0-100mph dismissed in just 8.6 seconds.

The XKR-S is not merely the quickest Jaguar ever, but also the most agile, responsive and driver-focused. It exploits the XK’s strong, lightweight aluminium body architecture to maximise both handling and economy. Alongside its incredible performance, the XKR-S is the only car in its class that emits less than 300g/km CO2.

Bespoke suspension changes to the front and rear offer ultimate precision, control and driver appeal, while a reprogrammed Adaptive Dynamics system allows the enthusiastic driver to explore the edges of the handling envelope.

Alongside the exciting new XKR-S, Jaguar will be marking the 50th anniversary of the E-Type with the first in a series of celebrations that take place during 2011.

Jaguar will be hosting E-Type drives at the Parc des Eaux Vives in Geneva, where the original car was launched by the marque’s founder Sir William Lyons half a century ago.

The appeal of E-Type transcended the automotive world. Such is the inherent rightness of its proportions, stance and purity of line, that it is a permanent exhibit in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Its influence is still apparent in Jaguar’s modern range – products that offer a peerless blend of performance, comfort, cutting-edge technology and award-winning design.

“It is impossible to overstate the impact the E-Type had,” said Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director. “Here was a car that encapsulated the spirit of the revolutionary era it came to symbolise. We’re looking forward to celebrating achievement and looking forward with our all-new sports cars in Geneva.”

ALMS 2010 – Laguna Seca – Jaguar RSR race report

Another milestone for the JaguarRSR XKR GT as it completed its first endurance run at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the six-hour American Le Mans Series Monterey Presented by Patron race.

laguan race 2010 Taking the green flag on Saturday afternoon with Marc Goossens behind the wheel, the #75 JaguarRSR XKR GT ran reasonable times and made gains in track position. On Lap 54, two hours into of the race, Goossens came in after making his way to the ninth spot in the GT class to end his first stint. With a quick driver change, efficient pit work by the JaguarRSR crew, things were looking good to continue a solid top-ten run.

But as Dalziel went to restart the car, it failed to power up. An alternator belt failure, which caused the battery power to be lower than normal prevented the car from starting. The crew had to work diligently to change the unresponsive battery costing valuable time. It was the end to a very positive run, but not the end of the day.

“The #75 JaguarRSR XKR GT had pretty good balance but we still seem to be struggling with finding overall grip,” said Goossens. “Towards the end of the race, the track got better and our times were faster. I think it was good for us doing consistent runs and learning as much as we can about the car during this weekend. Unfortunately with the battery going early on we lost quite a few laps which took away a bit of the challenge away. But it is good that it happened now so we can start looking into it and find the issues for Le Mans, and that is what we are doing this for.”

The XKR GT would complete a total of 191 laps around the 2.238-mile permanent road course, taking the checkered flag to finish 29th overall, 13th in GT class. Goossens posted the XKR GT’s best lap of the race and the weekend with a time of 1:26.079. The Belgian drove the car from laps 1-54, Dalziel ran a long stint in the middle from laps 55 – 133, with Goossens climbing back in to take the checkered flag. By completing 70% of the class winners’ race distance, the JaguarRSR team has earned its first points in the 2010 ALMS season.

Dalziel added, “Overall it was very good; we finished the race – that was the goal. The #75 JaguarRSR showed great pace at times during the race. We seem a bit closer in race trim and definitely closer in cooler conditions. Going forward to Le Mans we finished six hours and that is the first hurdle jump. I had a great, steady car that was easy to drive. Marc (Goossens) did a great job; the whole team did a great job today.”

There have been its fair share of ups and downs for the team, but leaving this weekend having the car take the green and checkered flag in yet and another event, an endurance event for that matter, one couldn’t help but understand Gentilozzi’s smile and the crew’s contentment.

“It wasn’t pretty, but again the thing that kept us from developing the car was finishing days, tests and events,” said Gentilozzi. “We had a great 500 mile test and now we have gone six hours. Had it not been for the alternator belt failure, we would have finished much better. And now we know that our margin is really less than 2%, we are 98% of the guys in the lead and we will keep ticking away at that until we get to the top.”

The JaguarRSR truck was immediately loaded at the conclusion of this weekend’s Round 3 of the American Le Mans Series Presented by Patron and on its way back home to the team’s East Lansing, Michigan-based shop. The crew will have only five days to prepare and pack the car for its next race – the 24 Hours of Le Mans in Le Mans, France, June 12-13. The team will return to ALMS competition at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for Round 4, July 9-11.

JaguarRSR takes first checkered flaf – finishes 11th in class at Long Beach

LONG BEACH, California (April 17, 2010) – One step at time, each moment getting closer to the goal – that was the mindset for the JaguarRSR team in Long Beach as they took their first checkered flag with the #75 Jaguar XKR GT in Round 2 of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron.

After running the reconnaissance laps ahead of the green flag for today’s Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach race, the #75 JaguarRSR XKR GT was warmed up and ready to go, except for one setback: a sticky throttle. On the grid the JaguarRSR crew worked diligently to resolve the problem before the 36-car field was released. Unfortunately, as a result of the problem a portion of the throttle linkage had slipped causing the throttle position sensor to read erroneously reducing the power of the 5.0 liter AJ133 powerplant.

After 28 laps around the 1.968-mile temporary Long Beach street circuit, Paul Gentilozzi was requested by the team to make the first and only pit stop of the race.

“It was unfortunate; we got the engine really comfortable this weekend and then we had a throttle sticking issue on the grid,” said Gentilozzi. “We tried to fix the situation by backing the throttle stop off to give us just about three-quarter throttle and that didn’t completely resolve the issue as we discovered during my stint. We came in, took the airbox off, fixed it and sent Ryan (Dalziel) back out. It still stuck a little on him, but he did the right thing, paced himself to safely bring it home to the checkered.”

Despite the issues, Gentilozzi was able to work his way to the top ten before having to pit. The #75 JaguarRSR XKR GT’s best time of the race was a 1:26.755 recorded by Gentilozzi on Lap 3. The car finished 11th in the GT class, 32nd overall.

“It has been a positive weekend when we look at where we were at Sebring and where we are today,” Dalziel commented. “It is the first time the #75 JaguarRSR XKR GT took the checkered flag and that is a big stepping stone for us towards where we need to be. The car showed good pace for the weekend and we just got a little bit unlucky with some stuff during the race. All in all, it was a good weekend and we are ready to go to the next one.”

Gentilozzi added, “It was our first checkered flag and we’re pleased with that, but we have a much higher expectation. We won’t be satisfied until we return Jaguar to its proper place in the field – at the front. We are going to keep working and we will get there.”

The JaguarRSR team will have a couple of weeks off before Round 3 – the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patron at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, May 20-22. The team will return to the site where the JaguarRSR XKR GT took its first green flag, but will have to prepare for another endurance event as the race has been lengthened to six hours of racing on the Monterey Peninsula.

Jaguar XKR GT2 debut in American Le Mans, Road Atlanta

Press Release :

Jaguar XKR GT2

In preparation for a full championship effort in 2010, RSR has entered the Jaguar XKR GT2 in the American Le Mans Series’ famed event the Petit Le Mans with the intention to introduce the car and utilize the track time for testing and development. The Jaguar brand is launched into what everyone considers the deepest GT2 class in the history of the ALMS and will have to face off against the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Corvette, Viper, and Ford.

From a production car, the Jaguar XKR makes an excellent racecar. “The Jaguar XKR is exceptionally strong and rigid, and the construction method is in advance of the conventional steel stamping that we see in cars today,” explained Paul Gentilozzi, RSR team owner. “That allows RSR to build a lighter, stronger, stiffer racecar. Also, the basic aerodynamic design of the XKR has a low drag coefficient and more than sufficient downforce.”

Jaguar XKR GT2

The GT2 class features production-based cars modified as allowed by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) rules. “There are very specific limitations. We use what we call in the industry, the Body-In-White. That is the basic skeletal structure, the sub-frames and frames from the original production car. We started our GT2 car with a real Jaguar XKR, this is not a panel built or fabricated car. We are using all of the aluminum skeletal structure of the car, the production doors, roof and deck lid.”

The body work features a design that is based on the Jaguar XKR and was completed in the Jaguar Advance Design Studio headed by chief designer Ian Callum. The body has undergone intensive computational fluid dynamics work, know as CFD, by the Jaguar aerodynamics department. Information from the CFD was then incorporated into the finished body work which was made in clay at the RSR facility. Over 1100 man hours were spent during the clay process. The carbon fiber composite body work was molded and produced by a local company in Michigan and conforms to the ACO guidelines.

“The end result is a GT2 car that contains the DNA and the spirit of the Jaguar Design Department and the production car,” comments Gentilozzi.

Yokohama has been announced as the official tire supplier. “Partnering with RSR on the Jaguar XKR GT2 in ALMS is a perfect fit for Yokohama,” said Mark Chung, Yokohama Tire Corporation director, corporate strategy and planning. “Motorsports is a core element in what we do. It’s in our DNA – we like to compete and we like to win, and so does RSR. Our collective efforts will certainly put us among the leaders in GT2 next year. We are definitely eager to get going.”

RSR is working very closely with Bosch Motorsport to integrate their technologies for engine control and chassis data acquisition. The car will be equipped with a Bosch Motorsport ECU and data logger with color display, as well as Bosch spark plugs.

Gentilozzi has had a long relationship with brake supplier Brembo, winning races in Trans-Am and Champ Car. Brembo six piston front calipers on 380 mm discs with four piston rear calipers on 350 mm discs have been installed and actuated by a Tilton floating master cylinder pedal assembly. A 5.5 inch Tilton metallic clutch will allow power to flow from the modified Jaguar AJ133 engine to a Hewland CST Transaxle.

A five time Trans-Am Series Champion, Gentilozzi will wear multiple hats for the team, as not only the owner but also one of the three drivers designated to run at the Petit Le Mans. He will be joined with sports car veterans American Scott Pruett and Belgian Marc Goossens. During the testing and development process these seasoned drivers will play a key role in getting the Jaguar XKR up to speed for a strong fight in 2010.

The Jaguar XKR GT2 will make its debut in the Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. The 1,000-mile, 10-hour spectacle is scheduled to start 11:15 a.m. EDT on September 26. Live coverage can be seen on SPEED beginning at 11:00 a.m.
